xEngineer (Backend oriented), Premium Billing Platform

As a backend engineer at Premium billing platform, you'll play a key role in designing and building scalable backend services for our subscriptions, billing, and payment systems. You'll work on cutting-edge technologies to create resilient, API-first platforms and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions. In your day-to-day, you will: 
• Design and build backend services for subscriptions, billing, checkout, and payment execution at scale 
• Develop API-first domain models for subscriptions, orders, invoices, payment intents, and payment methods 
• Create resilient distributed flows using asynchronous processing, idempotency, retries, and failure-recovery mechanisms 
• Design systems that work across multiple payment providers while maintaining platform agnosticism 
• Improve production reliability and observability using metrics, logs, traces, and data-driven insights 
• Collaborate with Product, Payments, Data, Finance, and other teams to deliver end-to-end solutions

• 4+ years of experience building backend systems in production 
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with hands-on experience designing complex backend systems 
• Experience with distributed systems and microservices architectures 
• In-depth understanding of API design, domain modeling, Object-Oriented Programming, and SOLID principles 
• Proven experience designing systems for reliability, scalability, consistency, and failure recovery 
• Expertise in asynchronous and event-driven architectures 
• Commitment to automated testing, clean code, and maintainable software design 
• Ability to troubleshoot complex production issues across multiple services and data sources 
• Strong ownership mindset, taking responsibility for critical systems from design to production 
• Curiosity and practical experience using modern AI-assisted engineering tools in development workflows 
• Strong communication and collaboration skills 

An advantage 
• Experience with billing, subscriptions, fintech, payments, or transaction-heavy systems 
• Familiarity with payment providers like Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, PayPal, or similar platforms 
• Expertise in high-volume migrations or modernizing large legacy systems 
• Knowledge of event-driven systems, workflow orchestration, or distributed transaction patterns 
• Hands-on experience with large-scale data and observability platforms 

As a backend-oriented engineer in Wix's Premium Billing team, you'll help build and enhance the platform that powers subscriptions, billing, and payment flows across Wix products. The team is developing the next generation of Wix's billing infrastructure—a flexible, API-first platform designed to support multiple products, business models, pricing structures, and payment providers at scale.

Our systems manage critical aspects of the customer lifecycle, including checkout, subscription creation and modifications, renewals, invoicing, payment processing, payment-method management, and billing history. You'll work on highly distributed, business-critical systems where accuracy, resilience, and backward compatibility are essential. Additionally, you'll play a key role in modernizing existing billing flows and migrating large-scale production traffic and subscriptions to the new platform.
