Meteorology Specialist (Freelance)

The Meteorology Specialist (7+ years of experience) will be responsible for the characterization and assessment of current and future climatic and meteorological conditions relevant to the radioactive waste management program. The role will establish a robust understanding of site climatic conditions, variability, extreme weather events, and potential future climate change to provide defensible inputs to facility siting, design, environmental assessment, and long-term safety assessment.
The role will obtain, compile, quality-check, and analyze relevant meteorological data, including data from the National Center of Meteorology (NCM) and other applicable sources, covering parameters such as temperature, precipitation, humidity, wind conditions, evaporation, and climatic extremes. The Climate Specialist will develop appropriate climatic statistics and design-relevant parameters, including the frequency, magnitude, and duration of extreme conditions, and will assess potential changes to these parameters under relevant future climate scenarios.

- Meteorological Data Acquisition, Compilation, Quality Assurance & Database Development
- Baseline Climate & Meteorological Characterization and Statistical Analysis
- Extreme Temperature, Rainfall, Wind & Meteorological Hazard Assessment
- Climate Change Projections, Scenario Development & Impact Assessment
- Design-Basis, Environmental Performance & Long-Term Safety Assessment Inputs
- Climate Adaptation, Multidisciplinary Integration, Workshops & Technical Reporting
- Master's degree or PhD in Climate Science, Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Climatology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with regional or national meteorological datasets and authorities, particularly UAE datasets.
- Experience with GIS, climate datasets, statistical analysis packages, and climate-model outputs.
- Familiarity with climate scenarios and recognized international climate assessment methodologies.
- Experience supporting regulatory, licensing, environmental-impact, or nuclear-safety documentation.
