ABOUT THE ROLE

The Second Mate is responsible for maintaining the bridge navigational and communications equipment as well as assisting with the vessel's piloting, navigation, safety and small boat operations.

The Second Mate works approximately 12 hours per day of varied hours; approximately 6 weeks on, 6 weeks off, rotational schedule.  Daily 12-hour shifts are comprised of standing two watches, administrative work and small boat operations.
