The team you’ll join

StepStone Private Debt (SPD) is a global private debt investor with over $87B in AUM/AUA based on the latest Q2 2026 firm figures. SPD covers the breadth of the private debt market and constructs bespoke portfolios on a primary, secondary and co-investment basis. SPD invests into performing and non-performing debt across the corporate, real estate, and infrastructure sectors. SPD is a subsidiary of the StepStone Group, a global private markets firm specializing in Private Equity, Infrastructure, Private Credit and Real Estate. 

About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated intern to join our Private Debt Portfolio and Risk Management team and support a broad range of analytical, research and portfolio-related activities.

The role is particularly suited to someone with a strong quantitative mindset who is comfortable working with data, performing analyses and translating complex information into practical portfolio insights.

What you’ll do

  • Conducting market research across private markets with focus on private debt, including analysis of market trends, transaction activity, fundraising, performance, portfolio construction and broader industry developments
  • Supporting the development and refinement of portfolio construction frameworks for private debt portfolios
  • Assisting with the monitoring and analysis of relevant private debt portfolio parameters, exposures and performance indicators
  • Developing analytical tools, dashboards and models to support portfolio management and investment decision-making
  • Helping improve existing processes through automation and more efficient use of data and technology
  • Working with large and potentially complex datasets, including cleaning, structuring, analyzing and visualizing data
  • Contributing to presentations, internal analyses and other materials prepared for portfolio management and investment discussions

 What we’re looking for

  • Currently pursuing, or recently completed, a degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, computer science or another quantitatively oriented field
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with a natural affinity for working with numbers, data and calculations
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and performing structured quantitative analysis
  • Strong Excel skills; experience with advanced formulas, data manipulation and financial modelling is preferred
  • Programming ability is highly desirable, particularly in Python or R; experience with VBA or other analytical tools would also be an advantage
  • Interest in portfolio management and private markets with focus on private debt
  • Ability to approach problems in a structured and logical manner and translate analysis into clear conclusions
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership of tasks and operate effectively in a team environment
  • Intellectual curiosity and a willingness to learn about both investment markets and quantitative portfolio management
  • Fluent in English, German is a plus
