The Supervisor, Flexo Press provides overall supervision and directs the daily work activities to the assigned staff. This position is responsible for providing leadership, mentorship and oversight in the efficient planning, production, and supervision of the assigned staff members within the department. This position is focused on providing support in providing effective communication and support to the assigned staff members and various other stakeholders. Leads by example and supports the direction of management to ensure ongoing collaboration, customer service, safety, security, and achieving the highest level of department standards which meet, and in some cases, exceed customer requirements. In partnership with the department manager, this position supports and manages quality, costs and on-time delivery standards while minimizing waste and rework.

 Position Responsibilities:

  • Partners with management in developing, executing, and achieving department initiatives and metrics to ensure optimal performance and efficiency gains.
  • Organizes, monitors, and prioritizes tasks to meet goals and objectives of the department.
  • Ensures that the assigned personnel are properly onboarded during the new hire process, mentored, motivated, and trained on an ongoing basis. Provides one-on-one coaching for development purposes when required.
  • Responsible for achieving department operating standards and engaging in productivity efficiencies in the form of quality, cost, and on-time delivery standards that support operational excellence.
  • Executes work activities which result in achieving customer requirements, resulting in total customer satisfaction.
  • Keeps the department manager abreast of daily activities regarding the status of the work and production schedules. If there are any issues, takes the appropriate action in recommending alternate ways to resolve issues and overcome obstacles to the Department Manager.
  • Partners with the respective staff members in diagnosing and resolving operational and equipment issues through gathering and reviewing data and/or facts, conducting thorough analysis and using effective problem-solving techniques. Escalates unresolved issues to the Department Manager and/or maintenance department for further handling to minimize production flow disruptions. Monitors progress to ensure successful closures.
  • Supports assigned personnel in troubleshooting common issues on the production line.
  • In partnering the Department Manager, assists in leading the required changes to improve operational and/or business efficiencies. Fosters a work environment of continuous improvement.
  • Works collaboratively with cross-functional teams and various other functional teams and personnel to mitigate or resolve issues impacting safety, quality, and production.
  • Responsible for providing and supporting human capital initiatives which include interviewing and selecting new talent, onboarding, mentoring, coaching, upgrading talent, recognizing and rewarding top performers, establishing career progression opportunities within the department, promoting employee retention, addressing/correcting performance/behavioral issues, weeding out poor performers, setting clear goals and expectations and holding staff accountable.
  • Responsible for completing the performance review process which includes providing input and feedback on the assessment of employee performance, creating development plans, and completing the sit-down review session with the employee.
  • Participates in meetings informing the assigned staff regarding the status of projects and other pertinent information and deliverables within the scope of this department.
  • Performs a variety of administrative duties which include setting up/adjusting work schedules, tracking attendance and absences, reviewing, and approving time sheets and time off requests, inputting and extracting data or information from an electronic system which include production reports, administering disciplinary actions, recommending wage increases, promotions, demotions, suspensions, terminations, and various other administrative tasks associated with the department’s responsibilities.
  • Enforces and ensures that all assigned areas follow the established safe working and housekeeping procedures; promptly corrects hazardous situations. Fosters and enforces a safe working environment via strict compliance with all safety training, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Partners with the Department Manager and security team to ensure all security protocols and practices are in compliance within the assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Partners with the Department Manager and the Quality Management Systems (QMS) team in developing and maintaining department SOPs and work instructions.
  • Enforces and ensures that all company policies are complied with as well as all QMS standard operating procedures, work instructions, corrective action, solution verification, and ISO requirements are followed in coordination with the QMS department.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. May be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time, as needed.
  1. Qualifications- Experience, Skills, Education & Training Required:
  • Requires a High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 4 years of equivalent experience which includes previous supervision of staff. Previous experience working in an ISO certified environment within the Printing Industry is preferred.
  • Effective working knowledge of addressing productivity and efficiency issues and following through to ensure closure. 
  • Effective working knowledge of production, equipment, tools, processes, procedures, and systems related to the assigned responsibilities is essential to this role.
  • Effective working knowledge of production techniques necessary to accurately and economically produce products which meet customer requirements.
  • Effective proficiency in using the intranet, email, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and management information systems (MIS).
  • Possess effective leadership skills in the areas of human capital management, decision making, planning, analytical, problem solving, and process improvement methodologies.
  • Effective interpersonal and influential skills to include de-escalation of personnel issues.
  • Possess effective customer service, interpersonal, detail oriented, results-driven, and administrative
  • Ability to effectively lead others and foster a productive work environment.
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of internal customers, managers, stakeholders, and subject matter experts. 
  • Possess effective mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Must be able to interpret and evaluate business problems and requirements and translate into analytical exercises and actionable insights.
  • Proactive work style used to communicate project status, issues, and completion plans.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to perform mathematical calculations – e.g., addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and various other calculations.

Visual/Audible Acuity Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak in English. Ability to read, write, and speak in Spanish is a plus.

Work Environment

  • Primarily working in a manufacturing (plant floor) environment: plant floor characterized by temperature extremes, consistent low to moderately loud noise levels, and considerable low motor traffic or moving equipment. Physical environment may require the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • May be advised or required to utilize personal protective equipment including, but not limited to: ear protection, eye protection, lifting equipment, issued high-visibility safety vest, and safety shoes.
