Your Mission

As a Senior Engineer at Bitpanda, your mission is to own, design, and scale the highly available, resilient back-end systems powering our core financial ecosystem. Whether building low-latency margin trading infrastructure, real-time risk assessment engines, or seamless payment and compliance pipelines, this work will directly shape how customers interact with digital assets at scale.

Collaborating closely with cross-functional stakeholders, spanning Product, Risk, Compliance, and Finance, will be essential to architect services that safeguard the platform, ensure regulatory compliance, and enable seamless growth as we expand across Europe and beyond.

What You’ll Do

• Architect and build: Design and develop scalable, resilient, message-driven services using Java.
• Ensure uncompromised quality: Write clean and future-proof code with 80% unit test coverage, alongside comprehensive end-to-end and integration testing, before deploying into our event-driven microservices architecture.
• Scale for heavy loads: Optimise core backend modules and services to guarantee maximum reliability, maintainability, performance, and scalability.
• Drive technical innovation: Research and adopt the latest trends and technologies in backend development to keep our infrastructure and applications cutting-edge.
• Lead by example: Act as a technical mentor for junior and mid-level developers by providing architectural guidance, code reviews, and support to help them grow and excel in their careers.

Who You Are

• Experienced Java Developer: Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience in software development using modern frameworks such as Spring Boot, with Java as the primary programming language, are foundational to this role.
• Database Expert: A solid understanding of both relational and non-relational databases is required, with a strong preference for candidates who have direct experience with Postgres and MongoDB.
• API Architect: Proven experience creating, scaling, and maintaining publicly available REST APIs is essential, backed by a keen understanding of performance optimisation.
• Event-Driven Thinker: Practical knowledge of message-oriented middleware to power event-driven microservices, ideally utilizing Apache Kafka or ZeroMQ, will set your application apart.
• Cloud Native: Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines is expected; while a background with AWS and Kubernetes is highly preferred, experience with any major public cloud provider is warmly welcomed.
