# Software Engineer, Backend Systems
## The Role
As a Software Engineer at Fullstack, you’ll build the backend infrastructure behind a real-time trading platform. You’ll design and ship services that process live market data, coordinate integrations across
trading venues, and handle high-throughput event streams.
Your work will span blockchain execution environments, distributed systems, data pipelines, APIs, and deployment automation. You’ll partner closely with our blockchain and product teams to deliver fast, reliable
execution in volatile markets.
## What You’ll Build
- Risk and liquidation engines: Build systems that manage risk, improve capital efficiency, and preserve liquidity during rapidly changing market conditions.
- Blockchain state machines: Design and implement the state machines that power trading, settlement, and risk operations.
- Distributed coordination: Build services that maintain consistent state across asynchronous processes. Design voting, consensus, and coordination mechanisms for external events.
- Real-time market services: Process live market data and coordinate actions across venues. Manage WebSocket streams, aggregation, and time-sensitive workflows where milliseconds matter.
- Data infrastructure: Build event-streaming pipelines that ingest and transform high-volume data. Design time-series schemas, indexing services, and query paths for real-time access.
- External integrations: Connect the platform to trading venues and other distributed data sources. Account for rate limits, connection failures, inconsistent data, and partial outages.
- Trading APIs: Build REST and WebSocket APIs that power the trading interface. Design caching and data-access strategies for millisecond-level response times.
- Performance and operations: Profile and optimize asynchronous Rust services, deploy containerized workloads, and build the monitoring and alerting needed for reliable, zero-downtime releases.
## What You Bring
- Production Rust experience: A strong command of ownership, lifetimes, type-driven design, and asynchronous programming. You’re comfortable debugging across the stack.
- Systems knowledge: A practical understanding of databases, networking, concurrency, and operating-system behavior. You can reason clearly about performance and engineering tradeoffs.
- Async and concurrency expertise: Experience building asynchronous systems with Tokio or similar runtimes. You know when to use channels, locks, atomics, or other coordination primitives.
- Database proficiency: Experience with relational, time-series, and key-value databases, including schema design, indexing, and query optimization.
- API design experience: Experience building REST, gRPC, or WebSocket APIs with careful attention to type safety, error handling, and observability.
- A performance mindset: You measure before optimizing, understand allocation and resource-use patterns, and can tune systems under production load.
- Production operations experience: Comfort deploying, monitoring, and debugging production services. Experience with Docker and reliability-focused engineering practices.
- An in-person working style: You thrive in a high-bandwidth, collaborative engineering environment and are comfortable working with the team in person.
- U.S. work authorization: You must be authorized to work in the United States.
Compensation
The base pay range for this role is $185,000 – $300,000 per year.
