About the Role – VP, Communications
We are looking for a strategic, commercially minded VP of Communications to lead our communications strategy and help shape how the company shows up externally and internally across key audiences.
This role is responsible for building and executing communications programs that strengthen our reputation, elevate our leadership team, support commercial priorities, and bring our company story to life across media, industry, customer, partner, employee, and market-facing channels.
The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller, trusted advisor, and experienced communications leader who can move confidently between corporate communications, executive positioning, media relations, thought leadership, product and business-line storytelling, issues management, and internal alignment.
This person will work closely with the CMO, executive leadership, product marketing, Sales Marketing, field marketing, growth marketing, insights, sales, and external agency partners to ensure our communications are clear, consistent, proactive, and connected to business priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
Communications Strategy
- Develop and lead the company's communications strategy across corporate, executive, product, commercial, and industry-facing priorities.
- Create communications plans that support business objectives, market positioning, brand reputation, customer engagement, and executive visibility.
- Partner with leadership to define the key narratives, messages, moments, and proof points that help the company stand out in the market.
- Ensure communications activity is proactive, coordinated, and aligned with broader marketing, commercial, and company priorities.
Corporate Communications & Reputation
- Shape and manage the company's corporate narrative, ensuring it is clear, credible, differentiated, and consistently reflected across external communications.
- Lead communications around major company announcements, partnerships, business milestones, industry events, thought leadership initiatives, and strategic priorities.
- Support reputation-building efforts with media, analysts, customers, partners, investors, employees, and the broader market.
- Ensure the company is communicating with clarity, confidence, and consistency across all major audiences.
Media Relations & PR
- Lead media relations strategy and execution, working closely with internal stakeholders and external agency partners.
- Build and maintain relationships with key journalists, editors, industry commentators, and media outlets across relevant sectors.
- Identify proactive media opportunities that elevate the company's story, leadership, products, customers, partnerships, and market perspective.
- Oversee press releases, media pitches, statements, briefing materials, Q&As, talking points, contributed articles, award submissions, and media responses.
- Prepare spokespeople for interviews, panels, podcasts, briefings, and media engagements.
Executive Communications & Thought Leadership
- Develop executive communications strategies that elevate senior leaders as credible, distinctive voices in the market.
- Create executive messaging, talking points, speeches, bylines, LinkedIn posts, panel prep, media briefing materials, and event narratives.
- Partner with insights, product marketing, and business leaders to turn market trends, customer needs, product innovation, and company strategy into strong thought leadership.
- Help identify the right moments, platforms, and messages for executives to engage with customers, partners, media, employees, and the broader industry.
Product & Business-Line Communications
- Partner with Product Marketing, Sales Marketing, Growth Marketing, Field Marketing, and product leaders to support communications around key products, solutions, launches, and business-line priorities.
- Help translate product and commercial priorities into external communications opportunities, including announcements, media narratives, thought leadership, customer stories, event messaging, and industry commentary.
- Ensure product and business-line communications are accurate, differentiated, commercially relevant, and aligned to broader company positioning.
- Support communications programs across priority areas such as advertising, betting, sports technology, data, media, and partnerships.
Issues Management & Message Discipline
- Lead communications planning and response for sensitive topics, complex announcements, market issues, and reputational risks.
- Develop clear messaging, holding statements, Q&As, response plans, escalation processes, and stakeholder alignment for issues that may require careful handling.
- Partner with legal, leadership, people, product, sales, and other internal teams as needed to ensure accurate, timely, and appropriate communications.
- Bring strong judgment, calm decision-making, and disciplined messaging to fast-moving or high-pressure situations.
Internal Communications Support
- Partner with leadership and relevant internal teams to support important employee communications where needed.
- Help ensure major business updates, organizational changes, strategic priorities, and leadership messages are communicated clearly and thoughtfully.
- Support the development of internal talking points, leadership notes, town hall content, FAQs, and employee-facing communications tied to major company moments.
- Ensure internal messaging is aligned with external positioning where appropriate.
Agency & Stakeholder Management
- Manage external communications agency partners, contractors, and vendors as needed.
- Set clear priorities, briefs, expectations, timelines, and performance measures for agency support.
- Build strong relationships across marketing, product, sales, legal, people, finance, investor relations, and executive leadership.
- Act as a trusted communications partner to senior stakeholders across the business.
