Sarvam is building the bedrock of Sovereign AI for India, developing a full-stack sovereign AI platform across research, models, infrastructure, and applications.
Sarvam is building the bedrock of Sovereign AI for India: a full-stack platform spanning research, models, infrastructure, and applications, with a singular focus on making AI genuinely work for India. We are backed by Lightspeed, Peak XV, and Khosla Ventures, and we partner with India's leading institutions and enterprises, including Tata Capital, SBI Life, CRED, IDFC, and LIC.
We are looking for an engineer early in their career but already serious about infrastructure: someone who has spent their first year or two going deep on the systems side and wants to own a platform end to end rather than ship features on top of one. This is a high-ownership role where you will lead the build of a production-grade system, from the infrastructure layer up through the services that run on it, with a lot of room to grow into its technical lead.
• Design and operate the infrastructure that the product runs on: provisioning, scheduling, containerized environments, and the orchestration that keeps them reliable.
• Own backend services and APIs end to end, in Python or Node.js, including the integrations with the models and systems they depend on.
• Take systems from prototype to production: instrument them, debug them under load, and continuously improve reliability and performance.
• Lead engineering decisions, setting the architecture and the standards as the system and the team scale.
• Work closely with product and GTM to turn real-world requirements into a platform that holds up at scale.
• Roughly one to two years of hands-on engineering experience where you have done real infrastructure or systems work, not only application features. We are not looking for a fresh graduate, but we care far more about depth on the systems side than about years on a resume.
• Genuine strength in backend engineering: you build robust services and APIs in Python or Node.js and are comfortable owning them in production.
• Solid grounding in the systems layer: containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), provisioning, scheduling, networking, or distributed systems. You have built or operated infrastructure, not just used it.
• A track record of shipping production-grade systems that real users depend on, ideally where you owned or led the effort.
• Comfort across the stack: backend is your center of gravity, but you can move into the frontend when the product needs it.
• The ownership and judgment to lead a platform's technical direction, and the energy to move fast while keeping a high bar.
• Hands-on work with GPU infrastructure or ML compute: CUDA, GPU scheduling, or managed notebook and training platforms such as Jupyter, SageMaker, or Vertex AI.
• Experience building metering, billing, quota, or resource-accounting systems.
• Hands-on time with AWS or GCP, particularly provisioning and managing compute.
Sarvam is a fast-moving, high talent-density team building full-stack AI for India, working on problems at the frontier of AI with real population-scale impact.
• Work alongside researchers, engineers, and builders who move fast and hold each other to a very high bar.
• High ownership and high impact from day one, on the infrastructure the whole product is built on.
• Everything we do is AI-first, from how we build and ship to how we think about problems.
• A chance to build platforms that change how an entire country learns, works, and communicates.
